Why the outside matters

The outside of a house does two jobs: it keeps the weather out, and it is the first thing anyone sees. Failed pointing lets damp into solid brick walls; cracked render traps water behind it; rotten timber fascias let birds and rain into the roof space. Putting the exterior right is not cosmetic, although the difference in how the house looks is often dramatic.

What we do

• Rendering — modern through-coloured silicone and monocouche renders that do not need painting, or traditional sand-and-cement with a painted finish. Old blown render hacked off and the wall prepared properly first.
• Repointing — old mortar raked out and repointed in a mix that suits the brick or stone, essential on the pre-war brick and stone houses across Rochdale, Oldham, Bury and Middleton.
• Brick and stone cleaning — removing decades of grime and old paint without damaging the face of the brick.
• Fascias, soffits, bargeboards and guttering — rotten timber replaced with maintenance-free UPVC, or timber renewed and painted where the house calls for it.
• Cladding — timber or composite cladding to gables, dormers and extensions.
• Windows, doors and porches as part of a wider facade refresh.

Done as one project

Because scaffolding is usually the biggest single cost, it makes sense to do the roofline, render or pointing, and any roof repairs in one visit. We plan the exterior as a single project, sequence the trades sensibly and give you one written price for the lot.
